Where the Red Fern Grows, by Wilson Rawls

Reviewed by Erin Troegner, 13, Titusville, NJ

Where the Red Fern Grows is the most emotional book I have ever read. It is about a boy named Billy who longs for two dogs. Billy does not want just any type of dog, but coon hunting dogs. He saves up his money for two long years and on his own buys two small puppies in Kentucky. He trains his two puppies to hunt for raccoons and gets in trouble a couple of times in doing so. Later on you find out that his two dogs are not ordinary but very special.

Wilson Rawls creates a mood in this book that makes the story very interesting. He also has put a lot of detail that makes you feel like you are the actual character in the story and can picture what they look like and how they act.

This book will probably be my favorite book forever because it is such a wonderful story. I know for a fact I will read it again. I would recommend Where the Red Fern Grows to anyone who is a dog lover and is up for an adventure!
