Published by Little Brown and Company. Copyright 1993. This book starts with an ordinary boy, named Seth, whose father died when he was young. Seth meets a boy named Jimmy and Jimmy has a big influence on his life. Jimmy makes Seth love to play baseball and he teaches him everything he knows about it. Seth goes from minors, to majors, to jay-vee, to varsity baseball. Jimmy and his friends start drinking to celebrate their wins and the story ends in tragedy. As far as I'm concerned, this is the best book I've ever read. I liked it because of the good description and the way Deuker went through the character's life and all the changes. As soon as I got into the book I didn't want to set it down. It has a great ending that will capture your heart.
