Freak the mighty is a wonderful story about two great friends that are complete opposites. They work through their differences and become best friends. They help each other in ways no one else could. Alone they are weak, but together they are Freak the mighty. Together they go on magical quests. Houses are castles, swimming pools are moats and dogs are wild stallions. No one can stand in they are way when their together. Freak is a brilliant child with a crippled body. He likes to see himself as brave and fearless like the knights he reads about in his vast verity of books. His wild imagination sends Max and him on strange quests and missions. Max is a huge kid going on eighth grade. All his life he has been called slow and stupid. That is until Freak came along. Before he knows what's happening Freak, or Kevin has him reading books and keeping up with the higher classes. This book is scary, suspenseful, funny and sad. The vocabulary and narrating make for a dazzling piece of work. I recommend it for all middle school readers.
