This book is about a girl, Cara, who loves horses but can't afford her own. When she is hired to take care of a half- Arabian-half-Irish draft horse, she is overwhelmed. Cara has a deal to take care of Lucas while his owner is at college. Cara and Lucas win many ribbons and trophies together. When Lucas's owner loses interest in horses, he is sold. There are two new owners. One likes Cara and helps her while the older one despises Cara. She stops at nothing to ruin Cara and Lucas's chance at the national show-jumping finals.
I like this book for many reasons. First of all, it is about horses. I also like Diane Redmond's use of description. I could tell that Diane Redmond knew what she was writing about from her correct use of horse and riding terms. I also like the diversity of the characters. She had Cara, who did anything to be with Lucas and the new owner who was mean and did everything to get away from Lucas.
I highly recommend this book. Any person who loves horses should read this book!
