Two Poems

Sara Ross, 12, Pennington, NJ

The Window

Looking out the window
depression
depression swarms around
overhead
there is a familiar
blue sky and
shear white clouds
dazzle it.
It is just a window
a perspective
what you see
through the looking glass
can be good or evil
which is defined
from your point of view.
Some say they are locked up
inside on a beautiful day
while others, by the window
say it is a gloomy day.
It's all said by the way
you look out the window.

Facade

impressionist imprinting
seeing a face
of a man
on the front mask
peering underneath
this mask
we shall find
the deep dark turning secrets
that lie inside
do they keep
the man hidden
from the whirling world
or do they make
him feel ashamed
pressure piling
on top of us
makes the mask more frightful
features change
on this mask
with the deep dark turning secrets
turning underneath this mask
every mask combined
with each other
forms a masquerade
are the deep dark turning secrets
real on the mask
or is it all
a facade
