The rope slides on the rock,
And I learn that I am not a superior
jock.
The friction saws through the rope,
And I lose any thought of
hope.
I jam my hands into a crack.
Then I feel my weight transfer
onto my back.
I hear the rope hit the ground.
And I wonder if I will
make that sound.
I do a pull up and find a hole.
Put my hand in and
use all my strength to pull.
I slowly ascend inch by inch.
And think what will happen if I flinch.
I slowly do a mantle onto a
ledge,
And see my partner holding onto a hedge.
He pulls me up and
shakes my head.
And says, 'You're lucky you ain't dead!"
