The Flower

Christie Phillips, 13, Pennington, NJ

Stretching toward the sunlight
     the beautiful flower timidly blooms.
Its petals spread
     like an eagle's wings.
Bees and butterflies buzz
     around this new attraction.
Children stop their playful spring games
     and ponder over the magnificent flower.
Adults gaze at this unique plant,
     admiring its beauty.
Sometimes nature's simplest works
     can amaze
          the least expected people.

"Christie Phillips is currently a 7th grader at Timberlane Junior School. Christie lives in Pennington NJ and is 13 years old. She enjoys playing a variety of sports, including soccer, basketball, softball, water skiing, and swimming. Christie also has other interests such as reading, writing, and playing with animals."
